What is cloud storage?
Cloud storage simply means your data is stored at Orion’s highly secure data center.
- The data center has interlocking layers of protection against hackers, natural disasters, and data loss.
- Your firm’s software and data are isolated in a private database or “cloud.” Databases are never shared and no one else can access your information.
- Authorized users at your firm access software and data through your secure internet connection. They can do their work anywhere there is a secure internet connection.
Tight control of your data in transit, in storage, and during usage

- Digital barriers at the data center. While in the data center, your data cloud is protected by firewalls, anti-virus, and anti-spam technology. Multiple layers of security filter out problems before they can reach your data.
- Security within the data center. Your private cloud is in a colocation center managed by a Tier 1 multinational internet services provider. The center is compliant with SOC 2 Type 2 (applies to the facility) and PCI Schedule C (applies payment card processing).
- Protection while in transit. As your data travels from the data center to authorized users, it’s shielded by TLS 1.3 256-bit encryption. TLS 1.3 is faster, more secure, and more flexible than prior versions, and 256-bit encryption is virtually unbreakable.
- Access control at your firm. All Orion software is built with robust security to prevent individuals at the firm from accessing data they are not authorized to view.
Strong protection against natural disasters and equipment failure
Data storage systems must do more than prevent unauthorized access. They must also ensure that authorized users have reliable access to their data so they can conduct business.
Orion’s data center is equipped with uninterruptible power supplies and backup generators. Even if a widespread power grid failure occurred, it’s unlikely your data access would be interrupted.
As a secondary measure to prevent data loss, the data center makes encrypted backups of your data multiple times each day. Three copies of every backup are made, and each is stored at a secure data center in a different part of the country. Thus, your data is protected even if a major disaster affects one of the data centers.
